FIVE NIGHT ROAD CLOSURE FOR EASTWAYS JUNCTION RESURFACING
The final stage of the Eastways junction improvements will result in night time road closures for resurfacing – details below from
Samir Pandya, District Highway Manager Highways & Transportation Services Branch, Essex County Council.
The Eastways junction on Colchester Road, Witham will be closed for five nights while Essex County Council completes essential carriageway resurfacing.
The night time closures will take place between 2nd July and 6th July inclusive, with work taking place between 20:00 and 06:00. This is the final phase of the Eastways junction improvement scheme.
Colchester Road, Colemans Bridge and the slip-roads on and off the A12 will be closed to traffic for the duration of the works. Traffic from Little Braxted Lane will be able to access the A12 in a southbound direction only. It will not be possible to access Little Braxted Lane from the A12.
A fully signed diversion will be in operation along the A12 and through Witham via Hatfield Road, Bridge Street, Newland Street and Colchester Road. Throughout the closure the weight restriction through Witham will be temporarily revoked to enable heavy goods vehicles to access Freebournes Road and other areas.
The scheme to improve Eastways junction is a £500,000 project that has taken place over the past 12 weeks. Other work that has been completed includes the removal of a mini roundabout, realignment of kerbing, installation of new signals and reconstruction of drainage and damaged sections of the highway.
County Councillor Norman Hume, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transportation said: “Once this essential surfacing work is completed drivers will notice a vast improvement to the Eastways junction. We are working to ensure that work is completed with minimum disruption, and I would ask drivers to bear with us for this short time and make alternative travel arrangements where necessary.”
