WITHAM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
LAUNCHES PHOTO COMPETITION - 21/01/2007

Witham Chamber Photographic Competition

Witham Chamber of Commerce has launched a major photo competition open to everyone who lives, works or goes to school in the town.

Snappers will have until 22 June to capture images of the town, local characters and what the organisers describe as the spirit of the place.  The competition is open to everyone and with two age groups covering young people and teenagers; the Chamber is keen to attract entries from the youngsters of Witham.

The competition runs until the summer so that photographers will be able to take advantage of winter, spring and summer light.  Awards will be made in each category and for each age group but the real reward for entrants will be to see their work displayed at an exhibition planned for the White Hart Hotel in July.  The Chamber is hopeful that some of the images can be used commercially.

Sally Carpenter, Chair of the Chamber, said the competition was being supported by many businesses in town  “The town is much maligned but it is very attractive in parts and full of local characters.  We hope entrants will be able to capture all aspects of life in Witham – it could prove to be a very useful social record of the town, a snapshot of Witham in 2007,” she added.

The judging panel will include a local professional photographer and representatives from the Chamber.  Winners will be invited to the launch of the exhibition and will have the satisfaction of seeing their work on public display.

Entry packs, which include a 10% voucher for prints made at Picturesque, can be downloaded from the Camber’s website or collected from the Town Hall in Newland Street.

“We really want everyone to get involved in this competition – from keen amateurs to first time photographers who may have been given a camera for Christmas.  We've a lot to shout about in Witham and this may provide a unique record of the town in 2007,” said Sally Carpenter.
