London Chamber of Commerce Advice on Identity Theft 18/10.2006

The following information was issued by the London Chamber of Commerce to help companies avoid identify fraud, we hope you find it useful:

  1. Use the Companies House anti-hijacking service to file company paperwork electronically and thereby reduce the risk of someone posing as you, http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/infoAndGuide/proof.shtml.

  2. Look after your business data and be particularly careful of how you dispose of old computers that may still have sensitive information stored on their hard disks.

  3. Do not give private information to anyone, and certainly not to people making unsolicited calls. Companies House never contacts businesses by telephone asking for authentication codes.

  4. Read the advice on the Home Office's identity theft website for practical tips on ensuring that you do not fall victim to this type of scam, http://www.identity-theft.org.uk.
