BLOOMING WITHAM 12/6/2006
Witham locals pulled out all the stops last weekend for the Witham in Bloom open gardens. 14 spectacular gardens, ranging from tiny to very large, were on display with a wonderful variety of plants, ponds, statues and orginal design ideas. The event benefitted Farleigh Hospice and Witham-in-Bloom and has raised in excess of £1700. Many of the gardens offered plants for sale and refreshments, cakes, ploughmans lunches and strawberries and cream, courtesy of Wilkin & Sons Tiptree. The Mayor of Witham, Cllr Phil Barlow and his wife launched the event from Pat Chew's beautiful garden in Rickstones Road.

Annie Northfield, principal organiser was sadly unable to open her own garden this year but said 'I was absolutely thrilled at the quality of all the gardens who participated, and very grateful to all the visitors who came out on such a hot sunny day to support this event'. M.P. Brooks Newmark and his wife Lucy visited many of the gardens and were impressed at the high standard of participants.
