Heading to Work - work experience for students with disabilities - 24/4/2006

I work at the Edith Borthwick School on a project called Heading to Work. My role is to find work experience for students in their last two years of school. Students at this School have disabilities ranging from mild to severe and this project is designed to offer these students the opportunity to experience the World of Work.

The Heading to Work Project is in nine other schools across the region. Each of these schools has a co-ordinator that is also searching for employers to help their students. We would like, with your help, to be able to find a work taster, an introduction to work, a guided tour of a company or supported work experience. Employers and students would have the full support of Mencap and the School during these experiences. For a large number of these students they will never go into employment, this is your chance to offer them an experience of a lifetime.

Here are a few students that are already enjoying the benefits of work experience.
