Huge Increase in Long Parking Costs 3/1/2006

Shop and office workers who come into Witham from the surrounding villages may have to pay a huge increase in parking charges if the current BDC's proposal is approved.  The suggested increase for all day parking is increasing from £2 to £5.  Witham Chamber of Commerce members are concerned that this sudden and dramatic increase could cause problems for some local business whose staff may not be able to reach their place of work by public transport and have to drive into the town.

Commuters parking in the town centre may be a problem but the people who bring jobs to the town and support the local economy are being penalised in order to deter commuters.  We hope that BDC will review their proposals."
