Chairman's Update 24/9/2005
Blooms in Witham
Congratulations to Witham In Bloom and local business for bringing so much colour to Witham's shopping area and to parts of the industrial estates. As you enter Witham from Chelmsford troughs of brilliant flowers hang from the railings beside the Mill Lane car park, the basket on the town sign is still blooming in September and the gardens of Kalle UK Ltd on the industrial estate are a mass of colour.

Business opportunities at Great Leighs
Pippa Cuckson, communications director of Great Leighs Racing, presented the plans for the development of the new race course at Great Leighs at Witham Chamber of Commerce's September lunch meeting. The scope of the project amazed some members especially when they saw drawings of the proposed stadium with its trackside dining and private boxes plus the betting hall.
Pippa assured members that the Great Leighs Racing and their caterers were commited to seeking local stockists and suppliers; so we hope that local producers will be able to take advantage of this "new market" that is scheduled to open in October 2006.

International Puppet Festival
The Chamber would like to thank Alison Dando from B.D.C., Wendy Harlow, manager of the Grove Shopping Centre, Witham Town Council and the sponsors for organising the 2005 International Puppet Festival in Witham on Saturday 24th September. 4 hours of continuous entertainment enabled visitors, of all ages, to enjoy the acts. One very spectacular act was the Robot Titan who had just returned from performing in the Middle East, the other artists entertained the crowds in Newland Street and in both the shopping centres with hand puppets, story telling, music and fascinating acts of movement and dance.
It's great for Witham that it can host the Puppet Festival, the smiles and laughter from the crowd (plus the additional trade for the cafes and shops) made it a great day for the town.
Street Signs - Can you help us?
Do you know of a missing street sign or one that has been damaged? Most of the street name signs in the town are clear and in good order but some are "past their sell buy date" and we want them replaced. The signs on Crittall Road Industrial Estate have crumbled and curled up, one or two other signs are missing - the Chamber of Commerce need your help in seeking out damaged signs so that they can be reported and repaired or replaced.
